[SINGAPORE] Sembcorp Energy UK will team up with digital infrastructure specialist Digital Reef to develop the first phase of a new data centre development at the Wilton International industrial site in Teesside, north-east England.

Sembcorp said in a press release on Tuesday (May 19) that a planning application has been submitted for the initial phase of the project, which is designed to provide up to 280 megawatts (MW) capacity.

Located at Wilton International, a leading industrial site in the UK, the data centre facility is expected to support high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads.

Mike Patrick, chief executive officer of Sembcorp Energy UK, noted that the project’s location at Wilton will offer it large-scale power availability, with strong infrastructure and connectivity to enable faster deployment at scale.

“As one of Teesside’s leading industrial sites, it is also well-positioned to meet the UK’s digital infrastructure needs while driving investment, strengthening industry and creating sustainable, high-value jobs in the region,” he added.

Digital Reef chief executive Piers Slater said the Wilton site’s existing grid connection, behind-the-meter power assets and utilities infrastructure provide an efficient route to market for the project.
