Mindef to spend S$90m to upgrade DSO biosafety lab to deal with more severe viruses
For the first time since 1998, the Defence Ministry's annual budget will see double-digit growth year on year

THE Defence Ministry (Mindef) is investing about S$90 million to upgrade the DSO Biosafety Lab to handle biological threats and highly infectious diseases.
The money is for DSO National Laboratories - the largest defence research and development organisation in Singapore - to work with the Ministry of Health to upgrade the facilities within DSO to the highest bio-safety level, which is Level 4 (or BSL-4).
