Pretty, but unsubstantial fare at Roia

The new restaurant in Botanic Gardens offers a great view first, and food second

    • Roia's interiors have been nicely spruced up.
    • Snacks include a "curry puff", an ikura tart and a buckwheat tart with corn mousse.
    • Potato rosti with confit egg yolk and mushrooms.
    • Seared ginpo in a splash of colourful sauces.
    • Mango sorbet and coconut jelly made to look like a raw egg for dessert.

    NEW RESTAURANT

Roia Restaurant 1 Cluny Road Singapore Botanic Gardens Singapore 259569 Tel: 8908 1705 Open for lunch and dinner Thursdays to Sundays: 12 pm to 3pm; 6 pm to 11:30 pm. Dinner only on Wednesdays

MAYBE one day, we’ll dine at this charming bungalow restaurant at the Botanic Gardens where no one needs to mention the colonial dude who used to live here. Not that we have anything against EJH Corner, presumably a very likeable botanist who enjoyed fungi and expat accommodation. But we wonder if the poor guy sneezes in the afterlife every time a new restaurant takes over the space, invoking his name in yet another predictable horticulture-inspired narrative.
